THIS TERM'S VISION
MESSAGE FROM JIM
I think this term is my favourite term in the year. As a new academic year starts there is a fresh energy and momentum as people come back from holidays, schools get going with students new and old flocking into the city, and then of course towards the end of term the anticipation builds to Christmas! This term we also celebrate our 4th year since planting and continue to make plans for planting out from here.
There is a similar sense of fresh energy and momentum as we move fully into Thomas Parker House having been on tour over the last couple of terms. Then, just as we thought we could sit back and feel settled, last Sunday happened! For those who weren’t there, the fire alarm went off at TPH (apparently the ladies toilet in Bierkeller?!) and we found ourselves having an impromptu service on the green outside Angel Cafe.
There was, I thought, a sense of irony, or God's sense of humour and a gentle nudging on Sunday... just as we start to feel like some normality or a sense of feeling settled in one place, we find ourselves meeting outside in the City Centre!
The call for St. Swithin’s, the reason we are here, is always to Love, Live and of course ultimately to GO. As we head into this new term, let's resist the temptation to feel settled, and ask God to come and challenge us to take risks and to GO to our friends and families, and colleagues and neighbours, trusting that as we do, we will see lives and communities transformed.
There is so much I could say about the vision and plans for this term. We can't wait for the new Alpha course to kick off, we are so excited to welcome hundreds of new students into the city, and host a silent disco, with the Cathedral in the Chapter House, for students and young adults.
We're looking forward to celebrating our 4th birthday and welcoming Nicky and Pippa Gumbel in October, our fireworks service in November, and then of course all our Christmas events.
At the heart of all this, is that we would see lives and communities transformed, as His kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven.
If you would like further details on any of the above, please get in touch.
Many thanks for being a part of the adventure - it really wouldn’t be the same without you!
love Jim & Vicky and the team at St. Swithin's x
